Location: Sudbury, North Bay, Parry Sound Area within the communities of Dokis First Nation, Henvey Inlet First Nation, Magnetawan First Nation, Nipissing First Nation, Wasauksing First Nation, and Wahnapitae First Nation.

WBAFN is looking for a minimum Level 2 Water Treatment and Water Distribution System Operator to work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and work with the Certified Operators of the five communities that have communal water systems. (Dokis First Nation, Henvey Inlet First Nation, Magnetawan First Nation, Nipissing First Nation, and Wasauksing First Nation.  Each community has an Overall Responsible Operator and will remain the ORO.  This position is to provide support to the existing Operators in maintaining their water systems.  Wahnapitae First Nation is also part of WBAFN and will be provided support as required as they are currently supplied with individual wells.  Two of the communities have communal wastewater systems (Magnetawan First Nation and Nipissing First Nation). Dokis Has a Faculative Lagoon that receives truck delivery from holding tanks.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work closely with WBAFN and the Operators Group
  • Extensive travel(driving) due to the location of First Nation Communities
  • Maintain communication with WBAFN staff and the Operators Group regarding the status of the systems assigned
  • Organize and schedule Major Maintenance tasks and schedule Operators Group meetings
  • Administer the Operators Group and their OJT/CEU’s and the courses/tasks to obtain sufficient OJT/CEU’s to keep their levels plus assisting with upgrading operators to higher levels
  • Coordinate Equipment purchases and maintenance of WBAFN equipment
  • Visit each Community regularly to help with Major Maintenance Tasks, vacation and sickness coverage, etc.
  • Help the Operators with their regular reporting requirements
  • Help coordinate the Computerized Maintenance Management System including the implementation of new plants online, adding new work orders, and monitoring regular activities
  • Complete quarterly reports on the status of each system and overall, HUB work.
  • Assist in developing specific training programs for each Operator and the Group as a whole
  • Help develop and participate on specialty teams to complete challenging tasks
  • Help develop efficiencies in the plants by working together with each operator and communities
  • Work with all Operators regularly but stay independent as a WBAFN employee
  • Complete, develop and maintain the administration of the Operators group and the Water/Wastewater Hub System
  • Responsible for the monitoring of the systems as a backup to the plant operators
  • To have the skills to operate each of the water and wastewater treatment systems

The Operator position will require some flexibility in the hours worked to best complete the work.  On-call duties may occur, as well as overtime for emergencies or covering Operator absences. 

Qualifications:

  • Current minimum Level II Water Treatment Operator Certificate (proof of certification is required)
  • Current minimum Level II Water Distribution Certificate (proof of certification is required)
  • Current minimum Level II Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate (proof of certification is required) If not certified, commitment required to obtain this certificate within a reasonable time.
  • Current minimum Level II Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate (proof of certification is required) If not certified, commitment required to obtain this certificate within a reasonable time.
  • Grade 12 graduate
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel and Microsoft project
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license (requirement of employment)
  • Reliable vehicle (daily travel) and valid insurance
  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical knowledge
  • Strong Independent Worker and Team Player
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Training Certifications- Sampling, First Aid, Confined Space, Working at Heights, WHMIS
  • Knowledge of Computerized maintenance management systems an asset
  • Electrical, mechanical, and plumbing expertise is an asset
  • Qualified First Nation ancestry would be an asset

Compensation:  Will be competitive with area municipalities and based on the applicant’s level of certification and skill
